The Parents' Classroom was established in 1940 with the aim of fostering the exchange of views and setting criteria for the many aspects of education needing constant review in an ever-changing world.
Character building, teaching value systems, early stimulation, the psychology of different ages, motivation and learning, our children’s educational difficulties, “teaching how to think”, looking after highly gifted pupils, technology in education, preventative health care for school age children, food and nutrition, academic and career guidance… these are some of the topics covered in conferences, seminars and round table sessions organised with the collaboration both of experts in specific fields and of the parents themselves, who are also experts in a wide range of activities.
Being parents today requires relying on more than natural intuition and love, qualities that, while providing a starting-point, do not give adequate answers to the needs and demands of our children nor do they provide solutions to the problems of society
The scope of the Parents’ Classroom also extends to the fields of culture and science as well as to current affairs topics, with courses, conferences and visits of historic and artistic interest
ON-LINE PARENTS' CLASSROOM
We live in a changing high-tech society which is raising a vast array of scientific and social questions. Many of these changes are having an impact on the social structure of the group we call “the family” and within it the crucial issue of children’s education
Parents are not normally taught how to educate their children; they do it according to the values they received from their parents. In our fast-moving society this situation means that families experience more problems with education and greater tensions are created in the parent-child relationship.
This aspect is even more important when our children, for whatever reason, move away from “the norm”. When parents discover their children are highly gifted they frequently feel confused, which then gives rise to difficulties in the learning process. They have lots of questions, such as: What is my child going to need? How do I treat them? How can I help them?, etc.
This is why the so-called “Parents’ Classrooms” which we have been developing over the last fourteen years have been so successful in providing training, helping to dispel doubts and resolving or preventing problems.
However, not all parents are able to travel or keep to a timetable. To meet their needs, we have created this new form of “Parents’ Classroom”, featuring the same work elements as the face-to-face classroom, but also including information, numerous examples and activities, opportunities for consultation… with the advantage that it can be accessed from anywhere at any time. It can be used easily by anyone, with no need for specialist IT knowledge
This on-line classroom covers a wide range of topics, from basic information on growth and development to the characteristics and needs of highly gifted girls and boys, or problems such as failure at school, asynchrony, hypersensitivity, etc.
