International training
Education today is unthinkable without a clear international perspective. Our organisation has always taken this imperative into account and blends the official Spanish syllabus together with an international education and the particular characteristics of the SEK Education System.
The International Middle Years Programme for ages 12 to 16 - is integrated into our Compulsory Secondary Education and leads to the International Baccalaureate, - for ages 16 to 18 - and which can be studied alongside the Spanish Bacheloriate.
MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME
The Middle Years Programme was conceived under the auspices of the International Schools Association and has been developed by the International Baccalaureate Organisation with the active collaboration of a number of teachers from the SEK organisation
The study plan comprises AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE, which correspond with the subjects in Compulsory Secondary Education: Language A (Spanish language, the official language of the Autonomous Community and Literature), Language B foreign languages), Mathematics, Art (Music, artistic and visual expression), Science (Natural Sciences), Humanities (Social Sciences, Geography and History), Technology and Physical Education and the AREAS OF INTERACTION (across the syllabus), linked to each other and with a variety of subject areas
The AREAS OF INTERACTION are: Learning to Learn ; Community Service ; Social and Health Education; care for the Environment , and "Homo faber" which ranges from scientific and technical know-how to aesthetic creativity.
The programme ends with a Personal Project in which the maturity and general abilities developed by pupils are demonstrated.
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE
From its inception in the 1960s the International Baccalaureate has been successfully meeting the needs of pupils in a plural world who:
- Prefer a wider-ranging academic and personal education.
- Want to ensure fluency in foreign languages.
- Opt for an intercultural education that shares common elements with other countries.
- Want to keep their options open for studying at foreign universities.
In 1977, the SEK organisation pioneered the incorporation of these studies in Spain.
Pupils must study subjects from the International Baccalaureate Organisation syllabus, three at higher level and three at middle level; undertake a brief but thorough monographic study; take part in Theory of Knowledge classes and carry out 150 hours of CAS Activities (creativity, action and service to society).
The best universities in the world recognise the International Baccalaureate and frequently give preference to students with the award, placing them in more advanced classes for some subject area.
